Digital Marketing EDU Rewind: Webinar Recap

Digital Marketing EDU Rewind: Webinar Recap

As schools are diving head-first into Digital Media Education it is critical that they are also thinking about Digital Marketing. Which is why we hosted our Digital Marketing Webinar on Monday, February 20th.

Digital Marketing is an incredible resource that schools have in their toolbox to market their school and promote events.

Throughout this webinar, Taylor Siebert (Founder and CEO of Striv) and Nick Schreck (Assistant Professor of Digital Marketing at Midland University) will thoroughly discuss digital marketing.

Specifically, what we learned in 2022 and Where Digital Marketing EDU is going in 2023.

Digital Marketing Education: What We Learned In 2022

We have identified five key trends that happened in the digital marketing realm in the past year that teachers need to be aware of.

1) Data-Driven Marketing

Just as important as it is for teachers to grade and assess students, it is equally important that schools are looking at the data from their marketing and social media strategies. Figure out what is working best for your school and what aspects are underperforming.

2) Social Media

Social media has been the main outlet for schools to share the amazing activities and events that take place throughout the year. We don’t see the relevance of social media in the digital marketing space going away anytime soon.

3) Growth of Video Content

With the rise of Youtube and TikTok in recent years, producing and sharing video content is a crucial aspect of digital media marketing.

 4) AI & Machine Learning

Nick Schreck calls AI learning “the google of this era”, it is quite literally reshaping the way that we think learning can work. The schools that embrace AI and machine learning early are the ones that will come out ahead.

5) Personalization & Customer Experience

When thinking about digital marketing, the more you can personalize and perfect the customer experience, the better the outcome will be.

Staying Ahead of the Digital Marketing Curve

Digital marketing is a difficult thing to master and can take years of trial and error to perfect. But the most important way for schools to succeed is to stay ahead of the curve. Here are three ways that schools can do this:

  1. Shifting Focus from Classroom to Online

  2. Digital Skills Development

  3. Changes in Consumer Behavior

Challenges of Digital Marketing

Through talking to schools, teachers, students and content creators we have identified the two biggest challenges of digital marketing that schools are facing:

  • Lack of Hands-On Experience

Students are not given enough chances to have hands-on experience with digital media marketing in the classroom. A fantastic way that students can get more experience is by working with local businesses or their schools.

  • Emphasis on Soft Skills Development

Business teachers need to emphasize soft skills, including communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity. Soft skills have become more sought out by employers in recent years.

Where is Digital Marketing EDU Going in 2023?

Every year brings exciting emerging technologies that will be sure to impact the digital marketing education realm. Here are four new technologies that we think will have the biggest impacts:

  • Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning

Taylor describes the impact that AI will have on digital marketing education as “AI is going to transform how digital media is created.”

In the webinar, Taylor and Nick do a deep dive into one AI technology that schools can add to their toolbox, named Jasper

  • Virtual & Augmented Reality (VR & AR)

VR and AR are quite literally changing how consumers engage with digital media. These can also be used to further engage students with interactive activities in the classroom.

  • Chatbots & Conversational AI

Chatbots are AI technology that revolutionized how businesses interact with customers through automated customer service. Taylor identified one way that schools could use conversational AI to their advantage.

“One of the main things I hear from parents is that it is a challenge to find stuff on schools’ websites. Chatbots help solve that problem and speed up the process of finding certain information.”

  • Blockchain

Blockchain is something that is relatively new and is also quite complex. Nonetheless, it is something that has value to students. Taylor highlights the potential importance of blockchain in this webinar.

“I’m letting educators know that blockchain is something that students are going to want to start learning about. So, educators need to find engaging ways to integrate this.”
